Credit Education Week 2010

by Joel Sandwith on November 15, 2010

Prior to my career at Hoyes, Michalos and Associates, I worked for about six years at Family Service Thames Valley as a credit counsellor.   Family Service’s credit counselling program is identical to the one offered locally in Sarnia by The Financial Fitness Centre.  These are both wonderful, not for profit organizations whose goal is to help people manage their debts.

One of the most important components to managing debt is education.  Local organizations such as Family Service and Financial Fitness Centre pride themselves on helping people learn more about credit, so they can avoid problems and learn to manage their finances.  Both of these agencies are members of the Ontario Association of Credit Counselling Services, who oversees their work, sets standards for credit counselling and helps to facilitate Credit Education Week.  This year, credit education week runs from November 15-19th, and the theme is ‘The Language of Money’.  Most of the events are in the Toronto area, but there are a number really good tools and tips on their website.

In the spirit of credit education week, take a moment to examine your finances.  Are you heading in the rigth direction?  Could you use some help getting there?  If so, contact us, or your local credit counsellor, and learn more about acheiving your financial goals.
