How much does it cost to see a Bankruptcy Trustee in Sarnia?

by Joel Sandwith on September 12, 2013

I had a client in today who met with a local company last week, to learn about options to deal with debt. The company they met with told them that a plan could be worked out for them to save 60% on their debt, and it would only cost $3,500 up front to do it.

When they dug a little deeper, they found out that all the $3,500 would do is give them a referal to a Trustee! Well, they didn’t go for it, and called me instead – and saw me for free, like everyone does.

While there ARE fees in a consumer proposal, they are INCLUDED in the full cost and you do NOT need to pay for a referal – the fees to the Trustee (called an Administrator in a proposal) are outlined in the Bankruptcy Act, and are the same for every trustee. So, if you are asked to pay a fee upfront to someone other than the trustee, you don’t have to, and should seek other advice – for example, call our office at 866-747-0660 or locally at 519-344-1058 and book an appointment to see me.
